As 2011 TED Prize Winner, French artist JR was challenged to change the world. His response? Inside Out: a global art project transforming messages of personal identity into works of art. Well worth 24 minutes of your attention, his presentation is everything you’d expect from a signature TED talk: stimulating, engaging, and funny with visuals that really speak.
On Friday, Laurent Segretier’s camera was set up on behalf of JR in Hong Kong at Galerie Perrotin. We dropped in for a peek as subjects were coaxed to give more while facing straight up at the lens. A selection of black-and-white portraits from the casting will be exhibited at the gallery in September and later sent around the world for wheatpasting at scales visible in satellite images on Google Earth.
