TAO OF CAT (ICEHOTEL SWEDEN, 2018)

Curiosity meets empathy.

A cat peers into a frozen pond with her paws on the ice, trying to touch the goldfish swimming just below the surface. We are captured in a moment of her thoughts through a haiku engraved in ice: “fish, flowers and me / the poetry of a pond / a parallel world”

Surrounding the bed, lotus blossoms symbolise perseverance and hope. We observe this scene from within the pond, from a perspective which has been rotated 90°.

Quiet reflection is the intent of the space, to offer an alternate viewpoint. As Marcel Proust wrote: “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
