2024 Summer recap / Fall update

A quick overview of the last few months:

HubTalks (IG: @hubtalks)
Spearheaded by Huschang as part of his academic research, HubTalks is:
– a curated event of 5-minute presentations followed by a conversation with panel speakers;
– a collaboration between NSCADU and SMU’s Arthur L. Irving Entrepreneurship Centre;
– a discussion that is open to all, with a focus on “the future of problem solving”
The second event was held on September 23, at the Arthur L. Irving Entrepreneurship Centre

studio at Wonderneath Art Society (IG: @wonderneath)
I rented a studio for 3 months at wonderful Wonderneath to work on a large scale project (more info on that below). I am extremely fortunate to know such a warm and supportive team of artists! An especially huge shout out to textile artist Linnet Finley (IG: @linnetbirddesigns) who very generously loaned me her personal sewing machine for the duration of my project when mine stopped functioning properly.
While I couldn’t share the work which would be unveiled the following week at Nocturne, I was happy to join the Open House on October 3 which gave the public a chance to engage with the robust community of artists at 2482 Maynard, comprised of Wonderneath and The Blue Building Gallery (IG: @thebluebuildinggallery).

Nocturne Halifax: Microcosm (IG: @nocturnehalifax)
I was invited by multi-talented high octane curator Shuvanjan Karmaker (IG: @shuvanjankarmaker) to be an anchor artist for the largest annual Atlantic art festival – Nocturne Halifax. Shuvanjan’s theme was Microcosm, which he explains as: “how I interact with the world… how everything we do is also a part of something bigger.” I presented new work, THE EYE OF THE TIGER, 5-foot high tiger head and expanded media installation which incorporates sculpture, textiles, painting, and experimental audio composition of text to music via handcrank piano.

Nocturne artist talk & panel discussion which included a casual chat with Shuvanjan and sweet, hyper talented fellow anchor artists – Dawn Shepard and Ryan Gray (Breaking Circus / IG: breakingcircus), Lance Sampson (Aquakultre / IG: @aquakultre), and Seamus Gallagher (IG: shameusseamus) on October 3 at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (IG: @artgalleryns)

Nocturne: THE EYE OF THE TIGER at Pier 21
The main event was Saturday, October 19 from 6pm till midnight. THE EYE OF THE TIGER was installed at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 / Musée canadien de l’immigration du Quai 21 (IG: @pier21_quai21 / www.pier21.ca) – the perfect venue and a dream team who made the evening magic. And finally, a MASSIVE thank you to the entire Nocturne Halifax crew for the months and months of organization, planning and care, and in willing this complex, multi-staged beast come into existence in such a beautiful way.
