The anniversary logo

Facebook’s randomizing algorithm threw them together: Steelcase (furniture) and NSCAD (art school). Though both logos were familiar, I hadn’t noticed the similarities before. Side by side, they could be iterations of the same identity.
Both are celebrating significant anniversaries this year (100 and 125 respectively), and both also focus on creativity while looking to the future. But is visual language really so narrow?

It reminded me of this episode of Mind Control where Derren Brown manipulates (or exposes, depending on how you want to see it) the creative design process. I’m not suggesting that anyone dropped hints about what they wanted for the two anniversary logos above, but the video is interesting food for thought.
